The Most Essential Self Defense Skills
to defend the most common attacks against women.
Our self defense seminar is designed to equip beginners with the most important skills and strategies to defend a real attack. You'll learn effective techniques from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts to defend being grabbed, dragged, hit, and pinned to the ground. You'll learn life-changing strategies for deterring, detecting and surviving violence. And you'll leave with the mindset—the confidence and the courage— that you can and will protect your life.

"This course is exactly what I was looking for. The classes are just the right size. Each of us got to practice with each other and our amazing instructor, Gemma. I feel so confident and motivated to learn more after this course. I’m so grateful to have found Girls Who Fight!"
"Fantastic experience with Gemma’s self defense session! My daughters (7th & 9th graders) and I learned a lot and had fun. All 3 of us are amazed at what we can do and want to take more classes. Thank you, Gemma, for teaching us some practical self-defense and anti-bullying things that we can continue to practice on our own."
"The Girls Who Fight blog has a wealth of information about self-defense, so I knew this is exactly what I am looking for... street smart, straight forward strategies to defend myself without taking a martial arts course. The Women's Self Defense seminar exceeded my expectations. I can't believe how much I learned. Gemma is truly passionate and knowledgeable about helping females defend themselves. I highly recommend this workshop for all women, and this is an invaluable mother-daughter(s) activity."
"I highly recommend this workshop for women and girls who are interested in learning about self defense and becoming aware of their surroundings. This program as many similar ideas to that of the book, Gift of Fear. The environment was very friendly and supportive. While learning serious topics and skills you’ll have fun and enjoy your time. I was very impressed and I’m excited to continue my journey with Girls Who Fight."
The Science Behind Self Defense Training
Women's self‐defense training is the only sexual violence prevention strategy with solid evidence of effectiveness at reducing rates of victimization.
A study of three Canadian universities found that women who completed a self defense course were nearly half as likely
to report being raped during the 1‐year follow‐up period than the control group. Unwanted sexual contact
and attempted rape were also significantly lower for women who completed the training.
A study of 522 high school girls in Kenya found that girls who received self defense training were 63% less likely to have experienced a sexual assault 1 year later than girls at schools who did not.
An analysis of the National Crime Victimization Survey data found that taking “self‐protective action” reduced the likelihood of completed rape by 87%. Physical self‐defense was especially effective, resulting in an 81% decrease in the likelihood of completed rape.

Taught by Former MMA Fighter & gwf founder!
MMA Fighter, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown Belt, Self Defense Instructor
What 15+ years of experience in kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, and wrestling gave me so much more than fighting skill— is the confidence that I can succeed, the mental toughness to fail and keep going, and the courage to stand up for myself in every aspect of my life. If every female could tap into these powers it would change their life completely.
In 2017 I founded Girls Who Fight with a mission to give girls and women the skills to protect their lives and succeed in everything they do. Through physical training, street-smart education, and unforgettably motivational experiences, we ignite the powerful belief that you have everything it takes to be your fiercest protector.
We deliver this transformative training through our classes and courses in DFW and the workshops we provide for every type of organization around the world!
